Description: Speaking is Cristina Lee.
It started with a friend of mine who is a nurse. On a hospital’s website she saw that they needed to make 1000 masks per week. I enlisted the help of my friends and my entire Whatsapp group.
We each contacted as many people as we could think of to sew or donate necessary materials. My family members also helped me. I experienced some moments of difficulty when sewers would say that they wanted to sew a different mask pattern, or when people would mismatch colours for the masks, but I listened with love to the end and at the end of the second week, I was able to deliver a batch of 300 masks to the hospital.
Contacting all these people has also given me the chance to reconnect with old friends and has brought so many fruits. So many of the people that we originally contacted to donate materials and help sew have then reached out to others. For example, one friend has connections to someone in clothing manufacturing. The manufacturer is now donating materials, cutting it and finding their own volunteers to make almost 500 gowns. Our project has become an extended community effort, making use of different talents and involving others to serve our neighbours together. When we do our small part with all our heart, God will do the rest!
