Description: After a tremendously successful and transformational joint summer program in Tonadico, Italy, in 2017—which brought together around forty Christian and Muslim youth for an intensive training course and dialogue of life—Sophia University Institute organized the first “Week of Unity” event on its campus in collaboration with the Risalat International Institute as well as the Center for Interreligious Dialogue of the Focolare Movement. The Week of Unity was held December 2–6, 2018, in Loppiano, Italy, which is the heart of the Focolare Movement, with the theme “Unity of God and Unity in God.”
Roughly eighty Shia Muslims and Catholics from numerous cities participated in the event. The program, in which a meeting of hearts and minds took place, was conducted under the direction of Msgr. Piero Coda and Dr. Mohammad Ali Shomali. It combined theological reflection and real-life dialogue, and featured the following presentations:
• The Epoch-Making Novelty of the Culture of Unity by Msgr. Piero Coda
• Unity of God & Unity in God by Dr. Mohammad Ali Shomali
• Elements for a Christian Theology of Interreligious Dialogue by Don Vincenzo Di Pilato
• Towards Truthfulness by Dr. Shahnaze Safieddine
• Ramifications of a Paradigm Shift in Interfaith Dialogue by Sr. Israa Safieddine On December 7, 2018—which marked the seventy-fifth anniversary of a young Chiara Lubich’s decision to dedicate her life to God—a smaller group participated in the sixth round of Wings of Unity in the city of Trent. Wings of Unity is an initiative that was founded in July, 2016, whose vision is to “think together and work together to offer our testimony of unity and spread the message of unity from real-life scenarios to the academic level.”
